The Big Box
Its like the best military campaign ever. First you identify your prey, in this instance a local high street. You notice all the potential footfall that can attract away when you open your big box mega store just out of town.
Footfall in the high street dwindles and a few shop units become vacant. Footfall dwindles a bit further and then a few more local stores close.
Stage 3 is well, elegant. The owners of the big box decide to open up smaller versions of themselves in the vacant shops that have been left.
Talk about a victory- Alexander the Great would have been proud.
Using a local currency is NOT about being anti big business. We all use them but, if we forget about and lose the great local family run businesses we might lose something special.
